Recently, the United Kingdom had to bid farewell to the most successful Israeli diplomat, Daniel Taub, when he resigned as an Israel ambassador to the United Kingdom. It was crystal clear that Taub was ready to give up 30 years of Britain citizenship.
The Orthodox Jew was born in Britain in 1962 and attended University College in London, University College in Oxford and Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.
Taub’s career began in 1989 after he migrated to Israel where he worked as a reserve officer in the International law division of the Israel Defense Forces and as a combat medic.
Later, he joined Israeli Foreign Ministry in 1991 where he held was handled many legal and diplomatic posts.
During his reign as an Israeli Ambassador to the United Kingdom from 2011 to 2015, Daniel Taub has seen trade between the two countries growing significantly, and there have been improved relations in academic, business and cultural sectors. More than 300 Israeli businesses have established their operations in the United Kingdom thus growing the annual bilateral trade between the two countries to about $7 billion. Also, there is no doubt that there has been an increased depth in academic and joint research activities which have benefited both the United Kingdom and Israel.
Through Daniel Taub, Orthodox Jewish religion has greatly been embraced in the United Kingdom. The Jewish community in the United Kingdom, though small, is adored for being chesed and generous. Most of the members are doing great works in fields such as academic, social and medical projects.
Daniel Taub had played a significant role in achieving co-operation between Iran and Israel which seeks to stop Iran from proceeding with their nuclear capabilities. Such relations have led to significant alignments with countries such as the Gulf States, Jordan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Israel is enjoying the latest technology from the United States due to the increased good relations between the two countries.
Taub believes that as an ambassador one needs to be self-sacrifice and commitment. Even as he vacates office, Taub admits that he will surely miss the Jewish community in the Diaspora who greatly welcomed him together with his wife to be part of them.
